Determining the Status of Files

When you are using a source-code control system, it is important to be able to determine the status of files within the system. This can help prevent collisions in groups with multiple authors, ensure that you are working on current files, determine whether you have access to a file, and so on. You also can examine the historical status of files to determine when and what changes were made, and who made them.
