Controls, referring to 

Avoid referring in UI text to other UI items, such as menus, options, links, or named portions of the window. However, if doing so is necessary, use the following guidelines:

  • Use roman text. Do not use bold, quotation marks, or brackets.

  • Capitalize the reference to match the interface.

  • Include the word the and the name for the UI control (for example: check box).
    Exception: Refer to menu commands by name only—do not use the or command.

    Correct Incorrect

    To see how any Web page was coded, right-click in the page, and then click View Source.
