Tables: Design Guidelines 

  • Place important information in a column as far left as possible. The left-most column usually contains unique identifiers, such as names, GUIDs, etc.
  • Make each column as wide as its longest entry, plus 30percent (for expansion during localization).
  • Within a given column, align cell contents in the following manner:
    • Left-align text.

    • Align numbers at the decimal point (seen or unseen).

    • Right-align numerical entries (such as MB, baud, etc.)
