Group Boxes

Using a group box, you can organize a set of controls. A group box is a labeled, rectangular frame that surrounds a set of related controls. Group boxes generally do not directly process any input.

A group box is a strong visual means of indicating that items are related. However, their overuse adds visual clutter and greatly reduces the space available on a surface. They should be used sparingly and only when the grouping of related controls adds obvious value. You should also consider using separators to group related items. Property sheets for files and folders are a good example of the use of etched separators rather than group boxes.
