Explorer Shell Default Settings (Windows Embedded Standard 2009)

The default settings and components for the Explorer shell are optimized to reduce the footprint and default operations. By default, users cannot launch random applications or access the Control Panel or shortcut menus in the Explorer shell. You can use the configurable settings in the User Interface Core component to change these settings.
The default settings for the Explorer shell result in the following attributes:
- Classic Windows theme. By default, the Explorer shell loads with this theme applied.
The classic theme looks similar to earlier Windows versions. If you want to use the Windows XP visual style, add the Windows XP Visual Style component. You can select the default blue, silver, or olive green color scheme, or the user can choose additional color schemes at run time. This component increases the footprint requirements for the Explorer shell. - Desktop with no visible icons.
- Taskbar functionality to manage running applications.
- Shortcut menus are disabled. You can change this setting using the configuration interface in the User Interface Core component.
- Web view for Explorer folders is disabled. You can change this setting using the configuration interface in the User Interface Core component.
- Start menu has no programs displayed. You can change this setting using the configuration interface in the User Interface Core component.
- Windows shortcut keys are disabled. You can change this setting using the configuration interface in the User Interface Core component.
- The following Start menu items are not visible:
- Run
- Search
- Help and Support
- My Computer
- My Network Places
- My Documents
- My Pictures
- My Music
- Favorites
- My Recent Documents
- Network Connections
- Control Panel
- Printers and Faxes
You can change this setting using the configuration interface in the User Interface Core component.
