Choosing and Testing a Video Card for a CEPC (Windows Embedded CE 6.0)

If you want to build a run-time image with a graphical user interface (GUI), you need to choose and test a video card for your CEPC in order to display the GUI on the CEPC. To choose and test a video card for a CEPC, check the display controller's compatibility with the VGA flat driver. The /L option selects the display mode, usually through the LoadCEPC.exe menu. However, other display drivers search the registry or use the /D option with LoadCEPC.exe when determining the run-time video mode. To choose and test a video card for a CEPC

  1. Insert the CEPC boot floppy disk into the CEPC. For more information about creating a boot floppy disk, see Creating a Boot Floppy Disk for an x86 SDB.

  2. Choose any video card for a CEPC that is compatible with Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA) 2.0 or later.

  3. To verify if your video card works with the VGA flat driver and is compatible with VESA 2.0 or later, locate Vesatest.exe on the CEPC boot floppy disk.

    Vesatest.exe detects if your video hardware supports VESA 2.0 or later, and what video modes the card supports.

  4. Start your CEPC, and then, from the MS-DOS 6.22 Startup Menu, choose Run VesaTest program and list valid display modes.

    Choose Clean Boot (no commands) and manually run Vesatest.exe.

    Note

      Some older model display cards do not support VESA 2.0 or later. These cards do not work with the FLAT driver unless specific display drivers are also included in your run-time image. For more information, see the Hardware Compatibility List.

  5. After you determine the supported modes, at boot time, from the LoadCEPC.exe menu, choose a supported mode.

    If your video card does not support any of the listed modes, configure an appropriate /L option for your video card.
