Advanced Systems Format (ASF). This format does not specify the codec used for a media object, but rather describes how media is structured in a stream.

This format is supported using DirectShow.

Audio Video Interleave, a Microsoft media container format.

AVI Splitter Filter

MPEG-4 Video

A compression format for audio and video.

This format is supported using DirectShow and the WMV/MPEG-4 Video Codec. There are some limitations to the implementation.

MS RLE Video

Support for the Microsoft run-length encoded (RLE) video codec.

This format is supported using DirectShow and the MS RLE Video Codec.

A format first developed by the Moving Pictures Expert Group (MPEG), MPEG-2 is the video format used in DVD Video, among other applications.

Playback of this format is supported using DirectShow.

WMV Video

Windows Media Video (WMV). A video compression format.
