Update a Device to Standard 7 SP1 (Standard 7 SP1)

7/8/2014

You can update a target device to Windows Embedded Standard 7 Service Pack 1 in one of two ways. The first way is to use Windows Embedded Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit and the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 distribution share to build an image based on Standard 7 Service Pack 1, and then use that image to re-image the target device. For more information about Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit, see Install Standard 7 Toolkit on a Development Computer. The second way is to directly apply the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 update to the Windows Embedded Standard 7 image installed on the target device.

Note

The Standard 7 Service Pack 1 update cannot be applied directly to a Standard 7 image on a target device by using Windows Update. The Standard 7 Service Pack 1 update is only available to the customer who created the Standard 7 image, and the customer who created the Standard 7 image is responsible to update and test the target device against the updated Standard 7 Service Pack 1 image before applying the updated Standard 7 Service Pack 1 image to deployed target devices.

Windows Embedded Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit and the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 distribution share

It is recommended that you use Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit and the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 distribution shares to build an image based on Standard 7 Service Pack 1 and then re-image the target device. When you use Standard 7 Service Pack 1 Toolkit, you can build images from both the Standard 7 and the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 distribution shares. For more information about the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 distribution shares, see Distribution Shares in Standard 7.

Apply the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 update to the Windows Embedded Standard 7 image installed on the target device

When you have an image that has been created by using Standard 7, you can update the image to Standard 7 Service Pack 1 by applying a CAB file for Standard 7 Service Pack 1 to the image.

Warning

Updating the image to Standard 7 Service Pack 1 only affects the status of packages that are contained in the original Standard 7 image. For example, if the original Standard 7 image does not contain Internet Explorer functionality, the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 updates to Internet Explorer are not installed.

To apply the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 update CAB file to the existing Standard 7 image

To apply the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 update CAB file to the existing Standard 7 image, use the following command line in Deployment Image Servicing and Management (DISM), replacing <cab_file_name> with the full path to your CAB file.:

DISM /online /add-package /PackagePath: <cab_file_name>

This command updates the Standard 7 image and reboots the target device to complete the Standard 7 Service Pack 1 update. To confirm that the Standard 7 image has been updated to Standard 7 Service Pack 1, navigate to the Properties field of the Standard 7 installation on the target device. The Properties field shows Service Pack 1 as part of the Standard 7 edition information.

Note

The Standard 7 Service Pack 1 cab cannot be installed on top of an Standard 7 evaluation image.
