Image Configuration Editor (ICE) User Interface (Standard 8)

7/8/2014

Review the user interface of Image Configuration Editor (ICE) in Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8).

The Image Configuration Editor (ICE) user interface consists of a series of panes. These panes enable you to create a configuration file and to add or remove modules from an existing configuration file. The following illustration shows the ICE UI.

The ICE UI is described in the following sections:

  • Image Configuration Editor (ICE) Panes
  • Image Configuration Editor (ICE) Menus
  • Image Configuration Editor (ICE) Buttons

Image Configuration Editor (ICE) Panes

The following sections describe the ICE UI panes.

Catalog Pane

The Catalog pane displays the currently open catalog in tree view. You can select, create, explore, and close catalogs by selecting the top node and then right-clicking in the pane. You can add items that are in an open catalog to your configuration file by right-clicking on the item.

Configuration File Pane

The Configuration File pane displays the modules, files, and folders that are added to the currently opened configuration file. In this pane, you can open and modify an existing configuration file, or create a new configuration file.

Note

To remove a module from an image, you must create a new image. The use of the dism/Remove Package command-line option is not supported in Standard 8 and could cause your image to become unstable or corrupted.

Settings Pane

The Settings pane contains two tabs, the Settings tab and the Properties tab:

The Settings tab displays customization settings that you can use to configure the run-time environment of the target device.

The Properties tab displays the properties and settings of a selected module.

On the Properties tab, the read-only Properties region displays the static properties of a selected module. The Settings region displays the settings of a selected module, and displays the settings and Standard 8 feature selections of a selected module.

Messages Pane

The Messages pane consists of four tabs, which display four types of messages: XML, Validation, File Copy, and Import PMQ. Selecting a tab in the Messages pane displays the type of message, a message description, and the location of the issue for the selected message type.

The types of messages that the Messages pane displays are informational. Messages only appear in the File Copy tab if files are being copied.
