Use VAMT 3.0 to Manage Standard 8 Keys Remotely (Standard 8)

7/8/2014

Learn how to use the Volume Activation Management Tool (VAMT) to manage your Windows Embedded 8 Standard (Standard 8) product keys.

Usually a license key is installed when an image is deployed, but you also have the option to use VAMT 3.0 to install product keys remotely. VAMT 3.0 can keep your product key list in the VAMT 3.0 database to allow management in a single location. In this case, VAMT 3.0 functions as a product key repository. For more information, see Volume Activation Management Tool Technical Reference.

Prerequisites

  • VAMT 3.0 host with Windows 8 Assessment and Deployment Kit installed
  • Administrator user rights to the devices whose keys you want to manage in VAMT 3.0

To import a product key into VAMT 3.0

  1. Copy the following file from each device whose product key you want to add to VAMT 3.0:

    %systemdrive%:\Windows\System32\spp\tokens\pkeyconfig\pkeyconfig.xrm-ms

  2. Paste the file into the following location on the VAMT 3.0 host:

    %systemdrive%:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits\8.0\Assessment and Deployment Kit\VAMT 3.0\pkconfig

  3. Restart the VAMT 3.0 host.

To add a product key to VAMT 3.0

  1. Open VAMT 3.0.

  2. In the left pane, right-click the Product Keys node, and then on the Actions menu, click Add product keys.

  3. In the Add Product Keys dialog box, select Enter product key(s) separated by line breaks, and then enter each product key you want to manage in the box, separated by line breaks.

  4. When you have entered all of your product keys, click Add Key(s).

To remove a product key from VAMT 3.0

  1. Open VAMT 3.0.

  2. Select the key that you want to delete from the list, and then in the right pane, on the Selected Items menu, click Delete.

  3. Click Yes to confirm deletion of this key.

Removal of a product key from VAMT 3.0 does not affect the activation status of any product or computers on the network. This process removes only the key from the VAMT 3.0 host database.
