Server Appliance Kit

When designing and building server appliance hardware and target operating systems for commercial release, follow the guidelines in the Microsoft Windows Server Appliance hardware reference specification in your Microsoft Server Appliance Kit documentation. The server appliance hardware requirements include the following hardware:

  • Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI)-compliant power button
  • Server appliance icons on your hardware

The following additional hardware is recommended to improve the user experience:

  • Local display
  • Keypad
  • Nonvolatile RAM (NVRAM)
  • Watchdog timer
