Windows Technology Macro Components

The following table shows the Windows technology macro components provided by Microsoft. These macro components are displayed in the component browser in Target Designer and can be located by using the component browser search tool. After a Windows technology macro component is added to the configuration editor pane in Target Designer, you can choose Settings under the macro component to display its constituent components and select the ones you need.

To refresh the component browser, press F8.

Component Description
Analog Television Support Includes components necessary to enable analog television playback.
Basic TCP/IP Networking Provides basic TCP/IP services including DHCP and Winsock. If you want to configure static IP information, you must do it at run time by using the network connection properties for the connection you want to customize.
Bluetooth Human Interface Device Support Provides support for Bluetooth Human Interface Device (HID ) devices such as a mouse and other pointing devices, and keyboards.
Bluetooth Modem Device Support Provides support for Bluetooth modems.
Bluetooth Printer Device Support Provides Bluetooth printing support.
Bluetooth Serial Device Support Provides support for Bluetooth serial devices.
Generic Bluetooth Device Support Provides support for many Bluetooth devices, including mouse devices, keyboards, modems, printers, and network adapters.
Client Printing Support Enables printing to a printer attached to a remote computer on a local network.
Digital TV Support Includes components necessary to enable digital television playback.
Digital Video Recording Includes the core infrastructure components necessary to enable digital video recording. This component does not include an end-user application for controlling these interfaces.
DirectX 9.0c Includes the full suite of DirectX 9 components.
Domain Participation Includes the components necessary to join a device to a domain.
DVD Playback Includes the components necessary to enable DVD playback, optionally including Windows® Media® Player 10 technologies. For DVD playback support, you must create a component for your DVD decoder.
Generic USB Input Device Support Supplies generic universal serial bus (USB) input device support, which includes mouse devices and keyboards.
Internet Explorer Technologies Includes various components of the Internet Explorer Web browser technology set. Includes Outlook Express, Media Player, and Internet Explorer.
Internet Information Services Technologies (IIS) Includes the components for Internet Information Services (IIS), including the Web server, FTP server, and more.
Kernel Audio Support Includes the components necessary for kernel audio support.
Legacy and Plug and Play Audio Support Includes audio support for legacy Plug and Play audio devices.
Local Printing Support Enables printing to a printer connected directly to the device.
Multimedia Application Compatibility Provides components that support a broad range of multimedia capabilities. Use this component to resolve dependencies and compatibility issues that are related to multimedia in your run-time image.
Networking Application Compatibility Provides components that support a broad range of networking capabilities. Use this component to resolve dependences and compatibility issues that are related to networking in your run-time image.
Server Printing Support Enables the target system to become a print server so other systems can access the printer.
Shell Application Compatibility Provides components that combine to create most of the user interface of the Windows Explorer shell, including Control Panel. Use this component to resolve dependencies and compatibility issues in your run-time image.
TCP/IP Networking with Client For MS Networks Provides basic TCP/IP services including DHCP, Winsock, and Client for Microsoft Networks.
TCP/IP Networking with File Sharing and Client For MS Networks Provides basic TCP/IP services including DHCP, Winsock, Client for Microsoft Networks, and file sharing.
Terminal Services Includes components necessary to provide Terminal Services functionality.
Windows Application Compatibility Provides components that combine to create the Windows API. Use this component to resolve dependencies and compatibility issues in your run-time image.
Windows Management Instrumentation Technologies Provides components that combine to create the Windows Management Instrumentation component of the Windows operating system. Use this component to resolve dependencies and compatibility issues in your run-time image.
Windows Media Player 10 Technologies Includes Windows Media Player 10 skins and playlist components.
Windows Media Player (Light) Includes Windows Media Player 6.4, a small footprint media player.
Windows XP Explorer User Interface Includes components needed to enable the Explorer shell for Windows XP Embedded, including the Luna visual style. A component may require this component even when not running the Explorer shell.

Note   This component does not set the shell to Explorer.exe.
