Preparing for CRT Display Testing

Note  This content applies to the Windows Logo Kit (WLK). For the latest information using the new Windows Hardware Certification Kit (HCK), see Windows HCK User's Guide on the Windows Hardware Dev Center.

Before running the display monitor tests on a test system or systems, you must install and configure the system hardware, choose the target Microsoft Windows operating system, and then install and configure Driver Test Manager (DTM). This section summarizes the display monitor requirements and procedures. For information about installing and configuring DTM, see Setting Up DTM.

For the premium logo, monitors must pass color quality tests, so your test lab must have a color measurement device that meets the E805-01a Standard Practice for Identification of Instrumental Methods of Color or Color-Difference Measurement of Materials standard from ASTM International. You can find out more about this standard on the ASTM Web site. These types of measurement devices are available from multiple manufactures. Follow the manufacturer's instructions to set up and operate the device. For more detailed information about the color tests, see the WinColorKit: Windows Color Quality Test Kit for Device OEMs Web page on the Windows Hardware Developer Central (WHDC) Web site.

In addition, the testing area must meet the recommended operating guidelines that are set by the manufacturer of the color measurement device and the manufacturer of the color device that you are measuring.

Test System Configuration

To configure the test systems for display monitor testing, do the following:

  1. Install the appropriate operating system on both test systems.

  2. Install the display adapters and their drivers. For the requirements of the display adapters, see CRT Display Testing Overview.

  3. Connect identical test display monitors on both test systems.

  4. If appropriate, enable autologon functionality.

  5. Install the DTM client on both test systems.
