IE11 on Windows 7

There are several differences between Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 8.1 and IE11 on Windows 7 in the areas of HTML5 video, touch support, device and screen orientation APIs, Windows integration, and performance.

Unsupported features on Windows 7

The contents of the IE11 Developer Guide apply to IE11 on Windows 7, except for the following features:

* The UI Responsiveness tool in the F12 tools may be disabled in IE11 on Windows 7 when Windows 7 is not up to date. If the UI Responsiveness tool won't work in your installation of IE11 on Windows 7, please make sure you've installed all available updates from Windows Update.

Known issues

IE11 on Windows 7 SP1 Embedded Devices

Attempting to install IE11 on Windows 7 SP1 Embedded systems will fail with the error message:

Operating System is not supported: Internet Explorer 11 can only be installed on Windows 7 Service Pack 1 or higher

To work around this issue, install KB 2670838 - A platform update is available for Windows 7 SP1 and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, and then install IE11.

Spelling Dictionaries

IE11 spelling dictionaries are not currently available in the Manage Add-ons UI. They can be obtained from the Microsoft Download Center. Spelling Dictionaries will be available in the Manage Add-ons UI in a future update.
