Configure Remote Desktop Credentials to Connect to Azure Nodes

Applies To: Microsoft HPC Pack 2008 R2, Microsoft HPC Pack 2012, Microsoft HPC Pack 2012 R2

You can configure credentials to make a Remote Desktop connection to any Azure node (worker role instance) that is deployed using the Azure node template. You might want to make a Remote Desktop connection to install an application or data on an Azure node, or to perform an administrative task.

Note

Remote Desktop connections to Azure nodes are supported starting in HPC Pack 2008 R2 with Service Pack 2.

Additional considerations

  • The credentials you provide will be used only to connect to the Azure nodes that are deployed using this template. They should be different from your domain credentials and from any local credentials.

  • You should observe standard security precautions with these credentials.

  • The password must meet certain complexity and length requirements. The password is encrypted in the HPC databases and is not exported if you export the node template.

  • If credentials are configured, you can open a Remote Desktop connection to an Azure node by using either HPC Cluster Manager or the Azure Management Portal.
