Windows Automated Installation Kit Scenarios

Applies To: Windows 7

Note

This content applies to Windows 7. For Windows 8 content, see Windows Deployment with the Windows ADK.

This section describes the end-to-end scenarios for Windows® deployment. The topics in this section include low-volume and high-volume deployment scenarios as well as servicing scenarios. You should review each scenario to determine which process best fits your business needs. At the end of each topic, you are provided a list of tasks required to complete the end-to-end scenario.

In This Section

Scenario: Deploy from Media

Describes how to install a Windows® operating system from media onto a new computer.

Scenario: Deploy from a Network

Describes how to create and deploy an image of a custom Windows installation using a network.

Scenario: Deploy from a Server

Describes how to create and deploy an image of a custom Windows installation by using a server.

Scenario: Service an Offline Image

Describes a common scenario used by corporations to modify (or service) and manage existing images that are stored on a server. Servicing an offline image helps eliminate the need for recreating updated images.

Scenario: Service an Online Image

Describes a common scenario used by corporations to add applications and perform other servicing and management operations on a running operating system that is booted to audit mode. It is also efficient when the majority of your servicing packages have installers, or the updates are in Windows Installer or KB.exe format, or the applications rely on Windows installed services and technologies (like the .NET framework, or full Plug and Play support).

Scenario: Service an Image Using Windows Setup

Describes a common scenario used by corporations to perform specific servicing operations during large-scale automated deployments. Servicing an image during an automated installation can be easily implemented and is ideal for any Setup-based deployment.
