Database Server Support for RMS
Applies To: Windows Server 2003, Windows Server 2003 R2, Windows Server 2003 with SP1, Windows Server 2003 with SP2
RMS uses a database server, such as SQL Server 2000, Microsoft SQL Server 2000 Desktop Engine (MSDE 2000) Release A, Microsoft SQL Server 2005, or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition, to run the RMS configuration, logging, and directory services databases. You can use MSDE 2000 or Microsoft SQL Server 2005 Express Edition only in a single-server deployment. For failover protection, you can implement a database server cluster.
To support logging requirements, you can also run the configuration and logging databases on separate database server instances, or deploy a separate database server instance or cluster for the root cluster and licensing-only clusters. For more information about these options, see "RMS: Deployment " in this documentation collection.
By default, the RMS Service group has Execute permissions on the stored procedures for these databases. The user account that was logged on during provisioning has Database Owner permissions on these databases.
