Insert Comment Frame dialog box

Use this dialog box to add a frame that contains comments and other information into a capture file. The comment frame contains the Trail protocol, which includes statistics such as the number of frames and bandwidth consumed. These statistics are calculated for a block of frames bounded by the current comment frame and the next comment frame of the same type (or by the end of the capture).

  • Frame Number
The frame position in the capture where Network Monitor inserts the comment frame. By default, the frame number is the current location. Network Monitor places the inserted frame in front of the frame number specified and increases the other frame numbers by one. The maximum frame number ranges from one more than the number of the final frame in the capture.
  • Type of Frame to Insert
The parser that processes the comment frame after the Trail protocol runs. If you modify the %netmon%\Parsers\Trail.ini file and map a parser to an integer, you can type that number in this field.
  • No Statistics
Disables the generating of statistics for the comment frame. When No Statistics is selected, Network Monitor does not use the comment frame to define a block of any other inserted comment frames for statistics. By default, this check box is selected.
  • Apply Current Filter to Statistics
Uses the current display filter to calculate statistics. By default, this check box is selected. If you clear this check box, the output shows data for all frames in the capture, including those that have been filtered from the display.
  • Enter in a comment for this new frame
The text that you attach to the frame by using the protocol specified in Type of Frame to Insert.
