Routing Rules Page

Applies To: Windows 7, Windows Server 2008, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows Vista

Use the Routing Rules page to configure simple routing rules that use the Application Request Routing (ARR) user interface. The Routing Rules page only lets you create simple routing rules; to create more advanced routing rules, use the URL Rewrite module user interface. Note that the Routing Rules feature is only enabled if the URL Rewrite module is installed.

UI Elements

Element Name Description

Use URL Rewrite to inspect incoming requests

Select this option to use URL rewrite rules to evaluate requests that come through your server.

Enable SSL offloading

Select this option to allow the ARR server to terminate SSL requests and communicate using HTTP with the application servers in the server farm.

Requests with the following extensions are not forwarded

Lists the file name extensions that should not be forwarded, for example, “*.jpg” or “*.css”.

Requests with the following patterns are not forwarded

Lists the patterns that should not be forwarded, for example, “/images/” or “/templates/”.

Actions Pane Elements

Element Name Description


Applies and saves the routing rule settings that you have just entered.


Disregards the changes that you have made and resets the settings to the previous values.

URL Rewriter

Takes you to the URL Rewrite module to configure advanced routing rules.
