List or Remove Fax Printers in Active Directory Domain Services

Applies To: Windows Server 2008

You can publish a fax printer in Active Directory Domain Services (AD DS) so that users can use the Add Printer tool to find the fax printer and install a connection to the fax server. This process is the same as the process for publishing a standard printer in AD DS.

To list a fax printer in AD DS

  1. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Print Management.

  2. In the left pane, under the appropriate print server, click Printers.

  3. In the right pane, right-click the fax printer you want to list, and then do one of the following:

    • If the printer has not already been shared, click Properties, click the Sharing tab, select the Share this printer check box, and then select the List in the directory check box.

    • If the printer has already been shared click List in Directory.

You can also remove a shared fax printer from AD DS.

To remove a fax printer from AD DS

  1. Click Start, click Administrative Tools, and then click Print Management.

  2. In the left pane, under the appropriate print server, click Printers.

  3. In the right pane, right-click the fax printer you want to list, and then click Remove from Directory.

Additional considerations

To configure fax components, you must be a member of the Administrators group or you must have been delegated the appropriate authority. As a security best practice, consider using Run as to perform this procedure.
