Universal Print standalone subscription

For customers without a subscription that includes Universal Print, the service can be licensed standalone. The standalone subscription does not come with, but requires, Azure Active Directory.

What's included with Universal Print?

Universal Print comes with a pool of print jobs that are available to all users who have a license. Each Universal Print license includes 5 print jobs per month which are pooled. For example, a subscription with 1,000 licensed users will have 5,000 jobs per month available to all users. Unused print jobs expire at the end of each month.

A single printed document is counted as a single print job, regardless of the number of pages or number of copies printed. Attributes such as single vs. double sided or color vs. grayscale do not affect print job count. For example, 15 copies of a 10-page document sent to the printer is counted as a single print job.

A print job is only counted when it is completed. A job is considered completed when it is successfully delivered to a printer or acquired by a 3rd party service being used with Universal Print. It is counted even if it is not picked up from the printer by the user who may be using a secure release mechanism like badge release. If a failure occurred in the Universal Print service, the job is not counted.

Additional print volume

If your print usage will exceed the included capacity, additional print job volume is available to be added to your organization’s pool.

Some organizations print more than others on a monthly basis. Customers can add additional volume add-on packs (500 print jobs each) to their standard pool of print jobs. Volume add-on packs are available through your regular channel.

To view your total print volume, monitor usage, and know when you need to purchase additional volume, visit the Usage and Reports page in the Universal Print portal.

Each add-on pack provides 500 additional print jobs per month, and they are always pooled. Multiple add-ons can be purchased to further increase the pool.

For example, a tenant with 1,000 licenses and 10 volume add-on packs will have a total of 10,000 print jobs available to users:

(1,000 licenses * 5 jobs per user per month) + (10 Add-ons * 500 jobs per month) = 10,000 jobs per month

Customers who don’t have a subscription that includes Universal Print can buy the standalone subscription for $4 per user per month.

For all customers, a volume add-on pack (500 print jobs per pack) is $25 per tenant per month.

We will closely watch demand patterns to inform our future decisions on add-on packs for different volumes.
