[The feature associated with this page, DirectShow, is a legacy feature. It has been superseded by MediaPlayer, IMFMediaEngine, and Audio/Video Capture in Media Foundation. Those features have been optimized for Windows 10 and Windows 11. The SetActualDataLength method sets the length of the valid data in the buffer.

Syntax

HRESULT SetActualDataLength(
  long __MIDL__IMediaSample0000
);

Parameters

__MIDL__IMediaSample0000

Length of the data in the media sample, in bytes.

Return value

Returns an HRESULT value. Possible values include those shown in the following table.

Return code Description
S_OK
 Success.
VFW_E_BUFFER_OVERFLOW.
 Length specified in lLen is larger than the buffer size.
