产品文件是描述 ClickOnce 应用程序所需的所有外部依赖项的 XML 清单。 外部依赖项的示例包括 .NET Framework 和 Microsoft 数据访问组件 (MDAC)。 包文件与产品文件类似，但它用于安装依赖项的区域性相关组件，如本地化程序集、许可协议和文档。

产品和包文件包含顶级 Product 或 Package 元素，它们都包含下列元素。

包架构由 Setup.exe 使用，Setup.exe 是 MS Build 启动任务生成的存根程序，它本身几乎没有硬编码逻辑。 架构推动着安装过程的各个环节。

InstallChecks 是 setup.exe 应该执行的测试，用于测试指定的包是否存在。 PackageFiles 列出指定测试失败时安装过程可能必须安装的所有包。 命令下的每个命令条目执行 InstallChecks 描述的某个测试，并指定测试失败时要运行哪个 PackageFile。 可使用 Strings 元素将产品名称和错误消息本地化，这样就可以使用一个安装二进制文件来安装各种语言版本的应用程序。
