This document is for informational purposes to review the types of requirements you may encounter when you begin to install the Microsoft Windows SBS 2003 R2 Technologies.

When you start the R2 Technologies Setup, it automatically checks to ensure that the installation requirements are met. The requirements are either blocking requirements, which means Setup cannot continue if they are not met, or warning requirements, which means a condition exists that may cause problems with your installation. If the blocking or warning requirements are not met, you receive a message telling you that they are not met. (You may also receive a message that is only informational.) In Setup, you can then double-click the requirement that is listed and read the details for it—for example, an action that you must take before you can begin the upgrade.

This document is a reference to all of the blocking and warning requirements, as well as to the details associated with each requirement.

Installation Requirements

For purposes of this reference document, the installation requirements messages for the R2 Technologies are divided into two tables:

• Blocking Requirements. This table lists messages for requirements that prevent you from completing Setup for the R2 Technologies.

• Warning Requirements. This table lists messages for requirements that may cause problems with your installation of the R2 Technologies.

Blocking Requirements

The following requirements must be met in order to complete Setup for the R2 Technologies. If the requirements are not met, you receive one of the following messages. To quickly find the Setup requirement details and solution, click the title of the Setup requirement in the table.

Setup requirements

You can install Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 only on a computer that is running Windows Small Business Server 2003 with Service Pack 1. You must install Windows SBS 2003 Service Pack 1. You must install Service Pack 2 for Exchange Server 2003 You must install Service Pack 2 for Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 before running Setup An instance of Microsoft Management Console is running The Windows Components Wizard is running You cannot install the evaluation version of the Windows Small Business Server 2003 R2 Technologies on this computer

Warning Requirements

The following requirements must be met in order to ensure that the R2 Technologies operate properly after installation. If the requirements are not met, you receive one of the following messages.
