The Data Director Service is responsible for moving files within the over-all ETD infrastructure. There are no analytical or collection features in the Data Director Service.
The Data Director (DD) service moves files using SMB3. If HTTP or HTTPS is required, a corresponding Data Director Web Service is required at the destination server.
The DD has two primay functions:
- Move files. This can be locally on the same host or between hosts.
- Transform the cabs & logs to the format used by the SERA Cab Import service.
- Windows Server 2008R2 SP1 or Windows Server 2012 R2.
- Microsoft .NET Framework 4.5 or higher
- PowerShell 4.0 or higher
The DD primary purpose is to moves files. The two possible scenarios for moving files using the DD involve moving files over http/https to an upstream DDWS (common for client facing or external collectors), or moving files over SMB to a local path or UNC for alternate use such as Cab Import (common for the Master, or final collector, in a collector chain).
A combination of these feature can also be used for custom solutions involving one-way-transfer systems.
