Create collaborative assignments

Every team in Microsoft Teams has a common structure with channels and tabs. The Class Team Files tab has a class materials folder. This read-only folder is a great place to share instructional content and resource files with students. For example, a middle school arts educator adds the course syllabus, the grading policy, and the course schedule to the class materials folder. Students view the files in this folder, but they can't make changes to the files.

With the channel Files tab, files are organized in folders and new files are created directly in the channel. For example, the same middle school arts educator assigns students to collaborative art projects. Each group has a folder in the channel files to upload work and coedit files. The educator decides to create a team channel for each group project so students have a place for conversation posts and channel files. When collaborating on files in a channel, such as a Microsoft Word document, students quickly access the document in Teams to coedit and see the work others have contributed. The document saves automatically to the team channel.

To track student work outside of Schoology, such as in Teams or a Class Notebook, educators can link assignments in Schoology to the team or the Class Notebook. The Schoology calendar provides visual reminders to students of upcoming tasks. It also provides insight to parents and guardians of the work students are completing in all digital environments. For example, an elementary educator adds a Schoology assignment that links to the collaboration space of Class Notebook. Students complete a math assignment in the notebook. Using digital ink, students work in teams to illustrate various ways to represent the solution. When students finish work in the Class Notebook, they return to Schoology and submit the assignment. This connection between Teams and Schoology allows educators to consistently score student work in the same place. The connection provides visibility for parents to monitor student learning progress and offers flexibility for where students complete work.
