Exercise - Create a data project and recurring data job

You have been asked to create a new data project that will import data on a recurring basis, for the Fleet Management company to export its sales orders monthly.

Before you begin

To get the most benefit from this exercise, we recommend that you have the standard sample data available in finance and operations apps installed by using Lifecycle Services. You will also need a developer sandbox environment and a trial or permanent license for using Visual Studio.

Prerequisites

  1. Launch, and log into your environment.
  2. When your environment has loaded, locate and open the Windows file explorer.
  3. Navigate to C:\temp.
  4. Add a folder named dixf.

Create a recurring data job

  1. Open finance and operations apps.
  2. Locate the Company drop-down menu, and select USMF
  3. Go to Workspaces > Data management.
  4. Select the Export tile to create a new data project.
  5. Enter Fleet customers in the Group name field.
  6. Enter Fleet customers export in the Description field.
  7. Toggle Generate data package to YES.
  8. In the Selected entities FastTab select +Add entity.
  9. Select Fleet Management Customers for the entity name from the drop-down menu.
  10. Select Excel for the target data format.
  11. Ensure that Skip staging is set to YES.
  12. Ensure that the Default refresh type field is set to Full Push Only.
  13. Ensure that the Select fields field is set to All fields.
  14. Select Add.
  15. Select Save in the Action Pane.
  16. On the Fleet customers export project page, select Create recurring data job.
  17. Enter Fleet customers export for the Name field.
  18. On the Set up authorization policy tab, enter the application ID that was generated for your application, and select it as enabled. Your application ID can be located in your Azure portal.
  19. Select Set processing recurrence.
  20. In the Define recurrence dialog box, set up a valid recurrence for your data job.
  21. Select the recurrence pattern of Months and the count to 1.
  22. Optional: Select Set monitoring recurrence and set up a monitoring recurrence.
