Types of requests

The following illustration shows, at a high level, how the translation service works.

Diagram of how translation service works.

Three types of requests that you can make through Dynamics 365 Translation Service are:

  • Translation - Translate user interface (UI) files or documentation by uploading your source files and, optionally, translation memory files. Translation Service will generate output files for translation review and the translated native format files.

  • Regeneration - Automatically regenerate/recreate native files by uploading a zip file of post edited (translation reviewed) XLIFF for UI files or .docx for documentation files. Translation Service will accept the reviewed translations, if they're valid, and will write to the regenerated translated native format files.

  • Alignment - create an XLIFF translation memory by uploading a source file and corresponding translated target file to be used for translation requests.

When creating a new translation request, you can choose to translate UI files or documentation files. Consult the Dynamics 365 Translation Service documentation for supported products and file formats.
