When you upgrade from Microsoft Dynamics AX 2012 to finance and operations apps, the upgrade experience allows you to bring your custom code forward, including your data. Both Dynamics AX 2012 R2 and R3 are supported for the upgrade experience.

The upgrade journey is divided into three phases.

The three phases of upgrade are Analyze, Execute, and Validate.

  • Analyze – During this phase, you will evaluate the upgrade, estimate costs, and create your upgrade plan. The goal of this phase is to create a project plan.
  • Execute – This phase should follow the project plan that was developed in the analyze phase.
  • Validate – When you have run the upgrade tasks, you will perform user testing, cutover testing, and then go live.
