This module covered the topic of deploying sensitivity labels in an organization. Sensitivity labels are tags that indicate the level of sensitivity of data, and they can also apply encryption and access policies based on the sensitivity of the data. They're crucial for protecting and managing sensitive or confidential information such as personal data, financial data, intellectual property, trade secrets, or regulatory data.

Organizations handle vast amounts of sensitive data daily, including customer personal data and financial transactions. The challenge for them is to ensure this data is adequately protected and managed. To address this, Microsoft 365 enables organizations to deploy sensitivity labels to tag and manage the level of sensitivity of their data. This task involves identifying and managing business and technical requirements, conducting proof of concept testing, internal checkpoints and approvals, and final deployment for the production environment.

This module guided you through this process. You began by learning about the importance of planning a deployment strategy for sensitivity labels. Because the number of scenarios in which an organization can apply sensitivity labels is so diverse in Microsoft 365, this training provided links to other documentation that addresses each scenario rather than provide detailed steps to address each one individually. This format allows organizations to pick and choose the scenarios they plan to address and then investigate the steps involved for each case.

The module then took you through the label creation process. You examined the requirements for creating sensitivity labels and how to create them. You then learned how to publish labels, and if needed, how to remove and delete them.

You also learned about the importance of enabling labels for files in SharePoint Online and OneDrive. By enabling labels, SharePoint and OneDrive can process the contents of Office files and PDF documents that have been encrypted by using a sensitivity label. Until you enable sensitivity labels for SharePoint and OneDrive, these services can't process encrypted files.

Having completed this module, you should understand the importance of sensitivity labels and how to deploy them effectively in your organization. You should also know how to use Microsoft Purview for data governance and how to apply sensitivity labels in common scenarios.
