Create reusable content blocks

Completed

Content blocks let you establish common content such as headers, footers, and other blocks of content that you can reuse across emails, forms, or pages. Content blocks give you the ability to standardize key components of your marketing initiatives.

Content blocks work like templates. After the blocks have been added, the content is copied into your design and doesn't maintain any connection to the original block content. Specifically, if you edit a content block in a design, other designs that use that block won't be affected.

You can lock the content of a content block to prevent it from being changed in any design where it is used. This approach will help improve control over common content and/or design choices.

To access your content blocks, go to Outbound marketing > Marketing content > Content blocks, which opens a standard list view of the available content blocks in your environment.

To create a new content block:

  1. Go to Marketing > Marketing content > Content blocks.

  2. Select an existing configuration to edit or delete, or select + New from the command bar to create a new one.

  3. From the General tab, you can design your content block by using the Designer tab or HTML code.

The only available design elements in the toolbox area are text and image blocks.

    Note

Any CSS styles that you include in your content block could be overruled by styles in the document where you eventually host the content. If you want to prevent this action, design your content blocks with inline styles that include the !importantĀ attribute.

  4. Go to the Details tab to enter general information about the content block.

    1. Name - Enter a name.

    2. Availability - Decide where this content block can be used (email, forms, and/or pages).

    3. Protected - Indicate whether you and other users will be able to customize the properties of the image element that is contained in a content block (if present) when it's used in the Designer view. All text content that is contained in the content block will be read-only in the Designer view, regardless of this setting and whether that text content is within a text element or in standard HTML constructs.

  5. When finished, select Save & Close.

Important

Even if you choose to lock a content block, users that have access to the designer's HTML tab will still be able to edit it by modifying the code directly. To prevent users from editing the content, administrators can use designer feature protection to limit access to the HTML tab by some or all users. For more information, see Control access to designer features.

After you have created your content blocks, you can begin using them in your marketing content. You can edit, modify, or delete your content block at any time. For more information, see View, delete, or edit your content blocks.

For additional information, see Create content blocks that you can reuse in multiple designs.

Use content block elements in marketing content

You can use content blocks in forms, pages, or emails by dragging a content-block element from the Toolbox area to the appropriate location in your design. Then, search for the desired content block that you want to add.
