Pick and ship items with a warehouse shipment document

Completed

The third method of picking and shipping gives companies a way to plan pick and shipment tasks for multiple orders. This method requires that the Require Shipment option is selected on the Warehouse FastTab of the location card.

Location Card with the warehouse Require Shipment option enabled

Planning for the shipment tasks can be accomplished by creating a warehouse shipment document. With this document, which is based on released outbound orders, you can ship one or multiple orders at once.

If bin usage is mandatory in a location, the warehouse worker must record the bin information on the warehouse shipment lines. The shipment document can be printed as a pick list to help warehouse workers. When the warehouse worker posts the shipment, the program also posts bin information on the line and creates entries.

You can create a shipment of a sales order from two functional areas:

  • Sales office - A sales person who is responsible for the specific order can choose to send a sales order directly to the warehouse shipment document.

  • Warehouse - A warehouse worker, at the warehouse where the order will be shipped to, can create a shipment document with all, filtered, or manually selected released sales orders.

To create a warehouse shipment from the sales order, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter sales orders, and then select the related link.

  2. Make sure that the order contains non-received items for a location that is set up with Require Shipment.

  3. Select Release > Release to release the document.

  4. Select Actions > Warehouse > Create Warehouse Shipment.

Business Central will create a warehouse shipment document that you can use to pick and ship the items.

Creating warehouse shipments from sales orders is a quick way to prepare your item shipments, but it limits you to processing one order at a time.

The next unit demonstrates how to ship multiple orders at once, together with processing warehouse picks.
