Create a warehouse receipt

When items arrive to the warehouse, an employee needs to handle and register the arrival by creating a warehouse receipt for one or several inbound orders. After the warehouse employee has posted the receipt, the items become part of inventory that is available for sale (but not yet ready for picking).

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, the receipt of a purchase order can be created from two functional areas:

  • Warehouse - The receipt document is created in the warehouse application area. This process can be done by getting the source document or by using the source document filtering option.

  • Purchase office - The receipt can be created through the released purchase order.

To create a warehouse receipt through the released purchase order, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter purchase orders, and then select the related link.

  2. Make sure that the order contains non-received items for a location that is set up with directed put-away and pick.

  3. Select Release > Release to release the document.

  4. Select Actions > Warehouse > Create Whse. Receipt.

Creating warehouse receipts from purchase orders is a fast and simple way to prepare your item receipts. However, it limits you to only processing one order at a time.

By manually creating a warehouse receipt, you can insert multiple inbound orders in one receipt document. The two options for inserting inbound orders are:

  • Use filters to get source documents - You can use filters, such as an item filter or a vendor filter, to select document lines that fulfill the filtering criteria and add the lines of all released source documents that contain the filtering criteria to the warehouse receipt.

  • Get source documents - The Inbound Source Documents window opens with a list of all released inbound documents. When one or several documents are selected, information from the source documents is copied into the receipt lines.
