Exercise - Create a location

This exercise uses the CRONUS sample company from the US version of Business Central. You might need to adjust the steps if you use the sample company from your country or region.

Scenario

CRONUS is expanding business and just opened a new warehouse in Detroit. You have been asked to set up the warehouse in Business Central.

The information to set up the location is as follows:

  • Code - NORTH

  • Address - 9860 Atwater St, Detroit MI 48207

After creating the new location, you also configure the inventory posting setup for location NORTH.

Management decides that vendors 10000 and 50000 will use this new warehouse as a ship-to location.

Tasks

  • Set up the warehouse in Business Central and assign it to vendors 10000 and 50000

  • Configure the inventory setup for location NORTH

Steps

  1. Set up the warehouse in Business Central and assign it to vendors 10000 and 50000:

    1. Select the Search for Page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter locations, and then select the related link.

    2. Select New.

    3. In the Code field, enter NORTH.

    4. In the Name field, enter NORTH Warehouse.

    5. Expand the Address & Contact FastTab.

    6. In the Address field, enter 9860 Atwater St.

    7. In the City field, enter Detroit.

    8. In the State field, enter MI.

    9. In the ZIP Code field, enter 48207.

    10. In the Country/Region Code field, enter US.

    11. Close the location card.

    12. Select the Search for Page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter vendors, and then select the related link.

    13. Locate vendor 10000 and then select the No. field to open the vendor card.

    14. Expand the Receiving FastTab, and then enter NORTH in the Location Code field.

    15. Select OK to close the vendor card.

    16. Open the card for vendor 50000.

    17. Expand the Receiving FastTab, and then enter NORTH in the Location Code field.

    18. Press the Esc key to close the vendor card.

  2. Configure the inventory posting setup for location NORTH:

    1. Select the Search for Page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter inventory posting setup, and then select the related link.

    2. On a blank line, in the Location Code field, enter NORTH.

    3. In the Invt. Posting Group Code field, enter RESALE.

    4. In the Inventory Account field, enter 10700.

    5. Close the Inventory Posting Setup page.
