Introduction

Completed

In Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, you can schedule the expected consumption and sales in the planning lines. For each job task, planning lines describe the expected consumption of items, resources, and other costs. Planning lines also show whether the planned consumption will be invoiced or not.

To create a new job planning line, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Search for page icon in the upper-right corner of the page, enter jobs, and then select the related link.

  2. Select the job task line for which you want to create a job planning line. The job task line must have the Job Task Type set to Posting.

  3. Select Line > Job > Job Planning Lines.

  4. Select New and then fill in the fields, as described in the following list:

    • Line Type - A job planning line can have one of the following types:

      • Budget - Provides estimated usage and costs for the job, typically in a time and materials type project. Planning lines of this type can't be invoiced.

      • Billable - Provides estimated invoicing to the customer, typically in a fixed price project.

      • Both Budget and Billable - Provides budgeted usage that is equal to what you want to invoice.

    • Planning Date - Specifies the date of the planning line. You can use the planning date for filtering the totals of the job, for example, if you want to see the scheduled usage for a specific month of the year.

    • Planned Delivery Date - Specifies the planned date for delivering the item that is connected to the job planning line. For a resource, the planned delivery date is the date that the resource performs services regarding the job. The program also uses the planned delivery date in order promising to calculate Available-to-Promise and Capable-to-Promise for items on the job planning line.

    • Type - You can create job planning lines for the following types of accounts:

      • Resource

      • Item

      • G/L Account

      • Text

    • No. - Specifies the number of the account to which the resource, item, or general ledger account is posted, depending on your selection in the Type field.

    • Quantity - Specifies the number of units of the resource, item, or general ledger account that should be specified on the planning line. If you later change the No. field, the quantity that you have entered remains on the line.

As you enter information on job planning lines, cost information is automatically filled in. For example, the cost, price, and discount for resources and items are initially based on the information that is defined on the resource and item cards.
