Introduction

Completed

Maintenance requests in Asset Management for Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management are created to request a work order for a service, repair, or inspection on an asset or a functional location. For instance, you might need to create a maintenance request for a mechanic to service a vehicle or perform preventative maintenance on a vehicle.

Create maintenance requests

Maintenance requests can be created by users with access to the Asset Management module as defined by your organization. When a request is submitted, it can be reviewed by a planner or manager who determines if a work order should be created, if it should be rejected, or another course of action should be taken. If a work order is to be created, then the manager or planner creates and assigns a work order to the individuals who are responsible for completing the work.

The following image shows the high-level steps that are involved with creating a maintenance request.

This module will explain the steps that are necessary to create maintenance requests. These steps will include using lifecycle states, creating maintenance request types, and establishing responsible maintenance workers to assign to the maintenance requests.

View maintenance requests

An overview of all maintenance requests is summarized on the All maintenance requests list page, no matter their life cycle status (in other words, active, ended, and so on).

The All maintenance requests page includes the following information:

  • Maintenance request number – The number that is assigned to the maintenance request. This number can be used for identification and tracking.
  • Maintenance request type – Specifies the type of maintenance that is being requested, such as a repair or preventative maintenance.
  • Description – A short explanation of the maintenance request, for example, “Machine valve needs replaced.”
  • Service level (priority) – Depending on your needs, you can set priorities from low to high. In this field, you can specify the priority for the request.
  • Functional location – This field specifies the functional location of the asset that needs maintenance.
  • Asset – This field specifies the asset ID for the item needing maintenance.
  • Maintenance job type – This field specifies the type of job. This specification will help when it comes to assigning the request. For example, you might have job types of “Inspection” or “Repair.”
  • Actual start date – Specifies the start date of the request.
