How to: Enable Web Projects

As the database administrator for your site, you might need to set up the database to accommodate Web projects. You will need to use the Web tab in the SourceSafe Options dialog box to set options for all Web projects included in your environment. Use the Web Projects tab in the same dialog box to make settings for a particular Web project.

To enable Web projects for your team:

  1. In Visual SourceSafe Administrator, on the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. In the SourceSafe Options dialog box, click the Web tab.

  3. Enter a default file name for Web pages. This is the file name that Visual SourceSafe will append to a URL during execution of the Check Hyperlinks command. The default name is Default.htm.

  4. Use the Proxy for deploying over ftp box to specify a proxy server for deploying files remotely through a firewall.

  5. In the Do not use the proxy for these local servers box, specify local servers for which Visual SourceSafe should not use the proxy server. Separate the server names with blanks.

  6. Click OK to register your settings.

  7. Now click the Web Projects tab in the SourceSafe Options dialog box.

  8. In the box This project represents a Web project, enter the name of the Web project or click Browse to locate the project.

  9. In the Deployment path box, enter a deployment location to use for deploying Web project files to a Web server. You can enter several deployment paths, separated by commas.

  10. In the Site map filename box, enter the name of the file that Visual SourceSafe should use to create a site map. The default is Sitemap.htm.

  11. Now use the URL box to enter the URL for the Web project.

  12. In the Virtual Root box, designate the virtual root for the Web project. If you have specified a virtual root in your server software, you should specify it here, without an initial slash.

  13. Click OK to register your Web project.

  14. If you need to set up another Web project, click Set Another to clear the dialog box.

  15. Repeat the steps above as needed until you have set up all Web projects for your team.
