Choose the data field to display on the map
The Data Fields page of the Data Mapping Wizard is used to select the columns or data fields, compare data, and specify the geographical unit at which you want to the data to be displayed.
In the Select the data field, or column, to map box, select the data field you want to map.
If you are mapping demographic data included in MapPoint, the available data fields appear in this box.
If you are using imported or linked data, the column headings of columns that were designated as Name1, Name2, or <Other Data> data type are listed as fields that can be displayed on the map.
For example, if the column names in your data are Name, Address, City, Years Customer, and Total Sales, then MapPoint would use Address and City to map the data, and Name, Years Customer, and Total Sales would appear in this box as available to display on the map.
If you chose a demographic or numeric field in the previous step, you can compare it to a second numeric field listed in the Divide the data you chose above by box.

More InformationComparing data allows you to create a relationship between two columns of figures and display that relationship on the map as a single set of data. For instance, you may want to create a Shaded Area Map showing total sales by county in relation to population, or a Sized Circle Map showing average household income by state compared to the number of owner-occupied households.
When you compare data, you divide one column of numeric data, for instance, total sales by ZIP Code, by another, such as a population demographic. You can choose to divide your data by any other column of numeric data in the set you have imported or linked to, or by any of the demographic data included with MapPoint. The result is displayed in the map legend as a decimal number.
Tip When you compare two sets of data, the results are displayed in the map legend in decimal format. When you format your map and legend, you can edit the legend labels to display as percentages instead. To calculate the percentage, multiply the figure in the map legend label by 100.
In the Show the data by box, select the geographical area (state / province, metropolitan statistical area (MSA), county, and so on) you want to map your data by.
Depending on the geographical area you choose to show your data by, you may need to select a method for combining your data under Combine the data by. For example, if you choose state but your data is organized by county, MapPoint must add values, average values, or count the number of values in order to display the data by state.
