Edit the properties of an HTML tag

Microsoft Expression Web provides you with several different ways to edit the properties of an HTML tag.

The Tag Properties panel provides you with a comprehensive list of valid attributes and events for the current tag. It enables you to modify properties that you've already set for a tag or set other properties. The various Properties dialog boxes that you can display for a tag, enable you to set the most commonly-used attributes for a tag, but typically don't contain all of attributes that the Tag Properties panel provides.

If you prefer to type your attributes and values, you can work directly in the Code view of a web page or, in either Design view or Code view, use the Quick Tag Editor dialog box to streamline the process. For more information, see Quick Tag Editor. Both methods support using IntelliSense to look up and insert properties and their values. For more information, see Using IntelliSense.

To edit the properties of a tag by using the Tag Properties panel

  1. In Design view or Code view, in your web page, put your cursor in the tag you want to edit or in the content of the tag.

  2. In the Tag Properties panel, make sure the tag that you want to edit appears directly under Show Categorized List Cc295157.9d6924f6-41e9-453f-879b-9a56d0463881(en-us,Expression.40).png. If a different tag appears there, move your cursor to the correct point in your web page.

  3. In the Tag Properties panel, in the box that appears to the right of the property you want to set, type a value or point at the box and then click, when available, the arrow button Cc295157.831cb746-62cc-437e-b8a7-17695a0edd28(en-us,Expression.40).png or ellipses button Cc295157.51972403-155f-4381-850b-1a581a6163d2(en-us,Expression.40).png and select a value.
