Configuration Manager 2007 Advanced Client Installation Requirements

Configuration Manager 2007 Advanced Client provides the full set of computer management features to embedded devices that run Windows Embedded Standard 7, Windows XP Embedded, Windows Embedded Standard 2009, and Windows Embedded POSReady 2009. This is the same client application that is used to manage computers that run Windows 7. It cannot be used with Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 or earlier versions of Windows CE.

The following list of components must be included in the operating system image to support the installation of Configuration Manager 2007 Advanced Client. For more information, see Building a Windows XP Embedded Image.

When creating a Windows XP Embedded or Windows Embedded Standard 2009 image, include the following components in your image during the image creation process using Target Designer or a similar image creation tool. The following components are required:

  • Language Support (English)
  • Explorer Shell
  • NT Loader
  • NTFS
  • NTFS Format
  • SCCM 2007 Client Prerequisites
  • User Interface Core

The following components are optional:

  • .NET Framework 2.0. This is required to use the Configuration Manager 2007 Desired Configuration Management feature.
  • Domain Participation. This is required to allow embedded devices to join a network domain.
  • Sysprep (Windows System Preparation). Supports the OS deployment capabilities of Configuration Manager 2007. After adding this component and checking for dependencies, right-click this component and choose Configure to set the Sysprep settings.
  • Misc. Command Line Tools. Includes the Command Line Registry Editor.
  • Net.exe Utility. A command-line tool that controls users, groups, services, and network connections.
  • Primitive: Nbtstat. A command-line tool used for NetBIOS Name Resolution.
  • Registry Editor. A registry editor with a graphical user interface (GUI).
  • Service Command Line Tool. A command-line tool used to start and stop services.
  • TCP/IP Utilities. TCP/IP tools used to configure and test network connections. Includes Ipconfig.exe, Ping.exe, and Tracert.exe.
  • Users Control Panel. A user account editor with a GUI.
  • Windows Firewall Control Panel. A firewall configuration application with a GUI.
  • Windows Script Engines. Provides scripting support.

Additional components might be required depending on your hardware configuration and the results of running dependency checks.
