Install Configuration Manager 2007 Device Management Client

Configuration Manager 2007 device management functionality can be configured in two different ways for Windows Embedded CE 6.0 R3 and earlier versions of Windows CE:
- Using the Platform Builder built-in client for Device Management (available for Windows Embedded CE 6.0 and Windows CE 5.0).
- Using Configuration Manager 2007 Device Management Client.
To use the built-in client, add the version of the device management client included in Platform Builder to your operating system image. Select the Thin Client template that also incorporates all dependencies for the client, and provides mixed mode support.
Note: In the device management client provided with Platform Builder, native-mode communications support is not available. Also, Windows CE .NET 4.2 does not provide a device management client with Platform Builder.
We recommend using the Configuration Manager 2007 Device Management Client, which is installed at run time. Installing the Configuration Manager 2007 Device Management Client at run time requires that certain components are installed after the image is installed on a device.
Device Management Client installation files are specific to the operating system version that is being installed. The files in the following table must be installed before you install Configuration Manager 2007 Device Management Client. Before installation, you must modify the ClientSettings.ini file according to your requirements. For more information, see How to Edit the Mobile Device Client Configuration.
Note: You cannot install Configuration Manager 2007 Device Management Client on Windows CE 6.0 until you install this Knowledge Base Hotfix.
