Parent and Guardian Sync
SDS is taking the first step in our journey to bring Parent and Guardian Identity to Office 365. SDS will sync Guardians through our CSV and OneRoster API sync methods, and create them as Related Contacts in Office 365. The related contact info will store the guardians' external email address as an attribute on the synced student, within the substrate store. This information will not be accessible to users in the directory, but it will be available for use by Teams or any app within the tenant.
Parent and Guardian sync will only be available for CSV files initially. It will be released for API profiles at a later date.
Enabling Parent and Guardian Sync
The Parent and Guardian sync option will only be available for new profiles. This means you will need to cleanup the existing profile and create a whole new one. Before you cleanup the existing profile, we recommend writing down or taking a screenshot of the existing configuration to make things easier when setting up a new profile. Steps on cleaning up an existing profile can be found under Term Transition and Expired Class Management. To enable Parent and Guardian sync, you will need to follow the steps to create a profile. Instructions on how to deploy depending on your file format can be located below.
There will be a minor change under the "Sync Options" when uploading CSV Files. When clicking on "Upload Files" you will be prompted with the below window. Here you can can change "Guardian Sync" from "Disabled" to "Enabled". This will then ask for the additional two CSV Files. Format for these files can be found under Parent and Guardian Sync File Format.
Once your files have been uploaded, the sync process will continue as normally indicated for your chosen file format.
