Create a new servicePrincipal object.

Important

Adding passwordCredential when creating servicePrincipals is not supported. Use the addPassword method to add passwords or secrets for a servicePrincipal.

This API is available in the following national cloud deployments.

Permissions

Choose the permission or permissions marked as least privileged for this API. Use a higher privileged permission or permissions only if your app requires it. For details about delegated and application permissions, see Permission types. To learn more about these permissions, see the permissions reference.

For multitenant apps, the calling user must also be in at least one of the following Microsoft Entra roles:

  • Application Administrator
  • Cloud Application Administrator roles

For single-tenant apps where the calling user is a nonadmin user but is the owner of the backing application, the user must have the Application Developer role.

Request body

In the request body, supply a JSON representation of a serviceprincipal object. The request body must contain appId.

Response

If successful, this method returns a 201 Created response code and a serviceprincipal object in the response body.
