How to find your build command in App Center

Important

Visual Studio App Center is scheduled for retirement on March 31, 2025. While you can continue to use Visual Studio App Center until it is fully retired, there are several recommended alternatives that you may consider migrating to.

Sometimes it's useful to compare the exact build command executed across different builds.

To compare commands, it helps to know where to look in App Center's logs. What the commands look like and how to find them depends your app's framework.

Native

Android (Java/Gradle)

Here is an example output from a Native Android Build:

React Native

Note

For reproducing locally, make sure that you also install the package dependencies from the package.json file:

  • Using npm - npm install
  • Using yarn - yarn install

Android

Since React Native links to the Android SDK to compile, the output will look similar to a Native Android Application:

Here's some example output from a Xamarin.Android build. The key lines to examine are after the [command] brackets, though the heading is useful to help you find the correct location.
