Nell'esempio seguente viene creata un'istanza di un Timer oggetto che genera l'evento Timer.Elapsed ogni due secondi (2000 millisecondi), imposta un gestore eventi per l'evento e avvia il timer. Il gestore eventi visualizza il valore della ElapsedEventArgs.SignalTime proprietà ogni volta che viene generato.

L'evento Timer.Elapsed viene generato in un ThreadPool thread, pertanto il metodo di gestione degli eventi può essere eseguito in un thread contemporaneamente a una chiamata al Timer.Stop metodo in un altro thread. Ciò potrebbe comportare la generazione dell'evento Elapsed dopo la chiamata del Stop metodo. Questa race condition non può essere impedita semplicemente confrontando la SignalTime proprietà con l'ora in cui viene chiamato il metodo, perché il metodo di gestione degli eventi potrebbe essere già in esecuzione quando viene chiamato il Stop metodo oppure potrebbe iniziare l'esecuzione tra il momento in cui viene chiamato il StopStop metodo e il momento in cui viene salvato l'ora di arresto. Se è fondamentale impedire al thread che chiama il Stop metodo di procedere mentre il metodo di gestione degli eventi è ancora in esecuzione, usare un meccanismo di sincronizzazione più affidabile, ad esempio la Monitor classe o il CompareExchange metodo .
