A Customer Data Platform is an important part of an organization. It helps you unify customer data into a single profile, and it allows you to build powerful insights that help you better understand them so that you can create meaningful customer journeys. For this reason, it's critical to ensure that everything is running and processing efficiently, and that the individuals who need to be working in the solution can accomplish everything that they need to.

If anything within the solution isn't processing as expected, it can have a significant effect on your organization. For example, your company might use segments that are defined in Customer Insights - Data to drive marketing efforts with services like Microsoft Advertising, Facebook Ads, or Google Ads. If the data that is being ingested into Microsoft Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Data isn't current, the segments that you use with these services are likely not current. As a result, you might not be targeting the appropriate customers in those services.

As an administrator in Customer Insights - Data, you have multiple features available to you to help ensure that your instance is running as intended:

  • Manage environments - You can create, delete, or modify the environments in your Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Data instance as needed.

  • Manage tasks and processes - View the status of the different tasks and processes that are being implemented in the application, and ensure that items like failures or errors are dealt with quickly.

  • Manage data refresh schedules - Define a schedule for refreshing your data in the application.

  • Define security and permissions - Ensure that users on the Customer Insights - Data application, such as your data analysts, have the necessary permissions to accomplish what they need to in the application.

Perform administrative tasks

Customer Insights - Data contains an Admin section that allows administrators to perform administrative tasks in their environment. Access this feature by expanding the Admin section and selecting System.

The System page includes the following tabs:

  • Status - View the status of the different processes and tasks that are being implemented in your Customer Insights - Data instance.

  • Schedule - Define a schedule to refresh the data sources that are being ingested.

  • API usage - Monitor API usage in the application.

  • Business unit data separation – Allows for restricting access to customer profiles, segments, and measures based on business units.

  • About - Review important details about your environment, such as the Environment ID, type, and region.

  • General - Modify environment settings, such as the language and region, after it has been deployed.

  • Diagnostic – Used to send Diagnostic information to external systems such as Azure.

  • Security - Use Microsoft Azure Key Vault to meet the compliance and security requirements of your organization.

  • Consent – Used to provide consent for Copilot features.
