Analytics configurations

Important

This topic only applies to outbound marketing.

Outbound marketing provides a wide selection of built-in analytics throughout the application. But you can also create your own custom analytics and reports from your Customer Insights - Journeys data by using Power BI. We provide endpoints that you can use to connect Power BI to Customer Insights - Journeys, plus a downloadable Power BI template that you can open in Power BI Desktop, connect to your Dynamics 365 data sources, and then customize as needed. When you're done setting it up, you can publish and share your Power BI report using the standard Power BI online tools.

To access the analytics configuration settings, open the Settings work area and go to Data management > Analytics configuration.

For more information, see Prepare for analytic reporting with Power BI.

Dataset configuration

Important

This topic only applies to outbound marketing.

The Dataset configuration area of the Data management section provides analytical tools for working with customer records. It allows you to choose which entities to make available for use in dynamic email content, segmentation criteria, and lead scoring in Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys. Tracking insights allows you to better understand your customers and set up subscription lists and target segments for use in email marketing campaigns. The Marketing data configuration settings also make dynamic field values available for use in marketing email messages as they are processed and sent.

For more information, see Sync entities and track insights using Dataset configuration.

Customer Insights connector

Customer Insights - Journeys enables you to deeply personalize your customer engagement using transactional, behavioral, and demographic data from Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Data. With Customer Insights - Data, you can:

  • Target unified customer profiles and segments. This enables you to engage every customer, regardless of whether the customer's data is in Customer Insights - Journeys or Customer Insights - Data.

  • Base dynamic content (such as personalized dynamics text) in emails, SMS, and push notifications on measures such as loyalty status, subscription renewal date, parent account, or any other measure you’ve captured in the unified Customer Insights profile.

To view the Customer Insights connector, open the Settings work area and go to Data management > Customer Insights connector.

To connect your Customer Insights - Data environment for Customer Insights - Journeys, you need to complete the following steps:

  1. Ensure that the Customer Insights - Data environment is set up in a region where Customer Insights - Journeys is available. If your current environment isn't in a region where Customer Insights - Journeys is available, you can create a new Customer Insights - Data environment using a copy of the previous environment.

  2. Enable data sharing between your Customer Insights - Data environment and the Microsoft Dataverse organization where Dynamics 365 Customer Insights - Journeys is or will be installed. This can be done in the Advanced settings of the Customer Insights - Data environment configuration.

  3. Set up Map, Match, and Merge rules in Customer Insights - Data to unify customer data and create unified customer profiles. Be careful while setting up the unification rules. Any future changes to the rule can impact or break live customer journeys.

For more information, see Use Customer Insights - Data profiles and segments in Customer Insights - Journeys.
