You can maximize operational efficiency by using the following data-driven insights in Guides.

  • Gain process insights over time - Get visibility and insights into performance data to maximize operational efficiency over time across your organization.
  • Use Microsoft Power BI to share knowledge - Pull employee performance data into real-time Power BI dashboards to improve processes and identify where instruction is needed.
  • Customize your learning experience - Use photos, videos, and 3D models to personalize training and turn institutional knowledge into a repeatable, interactive learning tool.
  • Assign guides to work orders within Dynamics 365 Supply Chain Management - Give employees mixed-reality instructions to guide them through service and maintenance with the Asset Management Add-in for Supply Chain Management.
  • Assign guides to technicians using Dynamics 365 Field Service - Extend the capabilities of Guides by using Field Service to assign work orders to technicians. Use the dedicated Field Service tab in the HoloLens application to launch any assigned guide.

Guides Analytics is part of the Dynamics 365 Guides application suite. Use Guides Analytics to analyze the usage of guides across your organization. Guides Analytics consists of Power BI visual reports that are populated with Dynamics 365 Guides usage data stored securely in your Dynamics 365 environment.

Watch the following video on analyzing your guides with Power BI reports.

What data is collected and used in Guides Analytics?

When an operator uses the Dynamics 365 Guides HoloLens app in Operate mode, each gaze-and-commit interaction on the Next step and Go back buttons is recorded, together with the date and time of the interaction.

Each operation of a guide in HoloLens Operate mode, whether completed from beginning to end of the guide or involving just a few steps, is called a run.

Information about the guide, such as step number, task number, and guide name are also recorded. This data is stored in your private and secure Dynamics 365 environment.

What can you do with the data?

The Guides Analytics reports are designed to help you answer high-level questions about guides usage.

For example:

  • How many guides have been used to date?

  • Is the number of times a guide is run per day increasing, decreasing, or remaining stable over time?

  • Which guides take the most time to complete?

You can also use Guides Analytics to drill into detailed time-tracking information at the task and step levels.

For example, answer questions such as:

  • Which step of a guide takes the most time?

  • Which step of a guide has the most variability in operator time?

These reports provide information about operator adoption and usage and give guide authors a data-driven way to improve their guides. For example, an author could focus their editing efforts on steps that take a long time to execute or show a high degree of variability among operators.

These reports are also valuable in training scenarios for both trainers and trainees to better understand performance and improvement over time.
