This is a common issue but unfortunately it can be related to a number of different things. Probably best to go through this troubleshooting article first and see if any of these solutions are helpful - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-US/azure/storage/files/storage-troubleshoot-windows-file-connection-problems

Sep 29, 2021, 9:30 PM It seems like the above link requires a working fileshare which I do not have and some of the steps are much beyond my knowledge and understanding. I would prefer if you can troubleshoot using pictures because that is much easier and quicker. Thanks

Sep 29, 2021, 9:40 PM Unfortunately there are too many possibilities to provide this amount of detail in an answer. What I would suggest is that you try to connect from a few different devices for example a Windows server and Windows 10 device as this could be a protocol issue or something specific with the device that you are currently using. Maybe create an Azure VM temporarily to see if you can connect from there, this might help to narrow down the cause of the issue.

Sep 30, 2021, 1:40 AM Hello everyone, so I set up a azure VM in my free azure account but when I clicked to start it up via RDP I got this error:
Can someone please show me how to correct this error ? Also, do I need to forward port 445 ? Could that be the problem ? How can I check IF there is a problem with port 445 or if port 445 is already open or necessary ? Thanks

Well it seems like the mapped network storage worked with azure virtual machine. But I still do not understand why mapping a network drive within the original windows doesn't work ? And I have windows 10 enterprise so most functions should work. So what else could be the problem ?
Okay so now that virtual machine works, I want to mount my samsung galaxy s8's internal storage as a mapped network drive with a drive letter using azure. Is it possible ? Also, If I make a ftp/webDAV server within the azure virtual machine can I use that as a mapped network drive from within the virtual machine ? Please help provide insight thank you

Sep 30, 2021, 7:20 AM II don't think you can map a drive to either of those systems. Regarding the port 445 issue, many ISPs block this so you need to test if this will work for you. There is a script to test this in the link I provided earlier. There is a way around this but involves creating a VPN gateway and a private endpoint to your storage account - https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/storage/files/storage-files-networking-overview#tunneling-traffic-over-a-virtual-private-network-or-expressroute

Sep 30, 2021, 7:25 AM I don't think this is possible without a physical cable connection.

Sep 30, 2021, 8:22 AM I think this question has diverged too much from the original question at this point. You would be better to post a new question I think.

Oct 1, 2021, 10:52 PM So now that setting up a mapped network drive in azure virtual machine works. That narrows down the possibilities and now what can I do to fix it on my local drive ? Thanks....

Oct 4, 2021, 8:59 AM You will have to run through the various troubleshooting steps outlined in the link provided. There is also a PowerShell based tool available from here: https://github.com/Azure-Samples/azure-files-samples/tree/master/AzFileDiagnostics/Windows You can try this first and see if it shows you where your issue is.
