This topic discusses the general concepts of a Microsoft code name “Quadrant” workspace.

Workspace

The workspace is the main area of the “Quadrant” user interface. It can contain multiple workpads, each visualizing a record or a table stored in a database. By opening the records in a collection of workpads, you can easily examine, edit, and organize data in the database. The following sections describe how you can adjust the workspace to place, position, and manipulate active workpads.

Panning the Workspace

To pan across the workspace, click a blank area of the workspace and drag in any direction. Note that the whole workspace pans accordingly. Release the mouse button to stop panning. If you have many workpads on the workspace, it can be difficult to find an empty space to click. To click anywhere and pan the workspace, including on a workpad, press CTRL+ALT, and then click and drag.

Workpads that are floated are not panned. For more information about floated workpads, see "Quadrant" Workpads.

Zooming the Workspace

To zoom the workspace in and out, press CTRL and roll the mouse wheel. Note that the zoom is centered on the mouse position. To zoom to a precise level (e.g., 25%), on the View menu, select Zoom, and then click the percentage. the current zoom level is displayed on the far right corner of the status bar (at the bottom of the Microsoft code name “Quadrant” screen).

You can zoom to the active workpad so that it is visible at 100%. On the View menu, click Zoom, and then click Zoom To Active Workpad.

Floated workpads are not affected by zooming.

Setting a Preferred Zoom

A preferred zoom lets you double-click the workspace to zoom to a predefined setting. To set this level, on the View menu, click Preferred Zoom, and then choose the preferred level.

Displaying all Workpads

To display all workpads in the workspace, double-click anywhere in the workspace to toggle between the preferred zoom level and a zoom that shows all workpads. If this zoom makes the workpads too small to view in full, each workpad contains a label that displays its name.

Alternatively, on the View menu, click Zoom, and then click Zoom To All Workpads, or use the keyboard shortcut by pressing F12.
